This December donors can double their donations to Rennie Grove Hospice Care with the Big Give Christmas Challenge to help keep the charity caring over Christmas.

From midday on December 1, to December 8, all donations made through the Big Give website to Rennie Grove will be matched, until the target of £27,192 is reached.

The money raised through this campaign will pay for the travel costs for two of Rennie Grove’s hospice at home teams for two months, to ensure adults and children with life-limiting illnesses are able to be cared for at home any time of the day or night.

Rennie Grove’s hospice at home care is needed now more than ever as the charity has seen a significant rise in the number of people it is caring for.

By visiting patients day or night, the charity’s specialist nurses help prevent emergency hospital admissions and support the NHS as they cope with the pandemic in addition to normal winter pressures.

Samantha Howard, director of Nursing and Patients Services at Rennie Grove, said: “We’ve never provided care to as many people as we do now.

“The pandemic has triggered a greater need for our services, and it is particularly important over Christmas that our families can stay together with their loved ones.

“Services are normally reduced over the Christmas period, with fewer doctors and pharmacies open.

"That’s why it’s so important that our teams are available, to provide specialist care and support for families during a very difficult time.

“This could be the last Christmas that many of our families will spend with each other, and the impact of having such precious time together is something that families will treasure forever.”

To support the Big Give, the charity is sharing a video of Theresa, whose husband died of Multiple System Atrophy in the summer, talking to hospice at home nurse Rachel about the difference her care made to her family.

Samantha added: “Our hospice at home nurses and healthcare assistants feel privileged to help families like Theresa’s stay together, and we need the help of our kind supporters to keep our teams on the road and providing this vital care.”

All donations to this campaign should be made through The Big Give website, all funds raised up to £13,596 will be doubled to total £27,192, so that Rennie Grove can keep nurses on the road and caring for local people this Christmas.
