Community mural painted by artistic Tring residents adds a splash of colour to Miswell Park
Artistic flair turns old disused changing room block into colourful mural
A community mural has been created on a disused building to add some colour to Miswell Park in Tring.
Friends of Miswell Park, a community group on Facebook, wanted to brighten up the park by creating a colourful mural on the old disused changing room block.
Last weekend, the founder of the group, Amy Overy, invited people to join the creative project at the park. Armed with paints and paint brushes, they changed the plain building into a colourful creation.
Amy said: "We set up an informal 'Friends of Miswell Park' group on Facebook a few years ago. It is a very well used, and well loved park.
"Working with Dacorum Borough Council, we have been making improvements to the park, just little things. We had benches put in, we had some bulbs planted which have grown some beautiful, colourful flowers, and we had picnic benches installed there a couple of years ago.
"This year, we decided to decorate an unused building in the park, which used to be a changing room/toilet block. The building is opposite the children's play area and we wanted to make it look better.
"The council have been really supportive of our idea to make it look better.
"We organised a weekend to do it, and we had some paints and equipment donated. We invited people down to join us, we wanted the local children to get involved and paint the mural.
"I think there were around 40 people over both days, which is great. It was really popular, the response from the community has been great.
"We gave the children some chalk and they drew the outlines, and then they were painted in. We had a badger, a zebra and an alien in a spaceship!
"Thank you so much to everyone who came to join us and help make this gorgeous piece of art in the park. To see so many children making their mark was fantastic, and we hope it puts a smile on your face when you pass by.
"It was really good fun and since the weekend we have had some requests for people to join the facebook group."
Emma Lane, who joined in with the community project, said: "They have painted the old changing rooms with a lovely mural. They got children and adults using the park to come and add their own bit to the design."
