Anyone who reads my column on even a semi-regular basis (God bless you) will know that I hate the winter months. The dark and the rain and the potential for ice and snow - it’s never been my season and I’m sure that many readers will agree - it sucks.

But as of Monday spring has finally sprung - and it’s easier than ever to look positively at all the great things going in in Aylesbury Vale.

This week this newspaper has covered a whole host of positive local events, from the Armed Forces Day launch to news that Su Pollard will star in this year’s pantomime, and the very exciting news that the Canal Basin will play host to its very own Little Trip Boat.

The Little Trip Boat is a brave venture for its owners, it’s completely their own money that they have put into it, and it’s going to be great.

I think that we should all try to support these wacky independent ventures where we can, because they are what makes our town such a great place to live.

News too came through this week that Aylesbury has been named as a top place to live if you like a bit of culture. From the unusual Rack Screams music event coming soon to the fact that Georgie Fame is coming to town this week and Tony Visconti and Woody Woodmansey next month, I am inclined to agree.

This week we’ve done a special feature on what really is a jewel in Aylesbury’s cultural crown - the Queens Park Arts Centre.

Together with the town’s David Bowie history it was cited as the main reason for the accolade by The Times newspaper.

We really are very lucky to have such a great and positive facility on our doorstep, and long may it continue.

So here’s a positive springtime filled with exciting activities, community spirit trips along the canal on the Little Trip Boat and fun fun fun.

And hopefully the Berkeley Rise pooper will stop soon because that’s really killing the buzz!
