Budget announces Aylesbury is successful in £170m housing infrastructure bid

The bid all centres around Aylesbury's new Garden Town Project.

Speaking after the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak’s budget statement, Rob Butler, MP for Aylesbury, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that the Chancellor has approved Aylesbury's Housing Infrastructure Fund bid for £170 million, after I stepped in to press the case for the town to

get financial support for its development.

“I know how crucial this money is to fund much-needed projects in the town and that it has been long-awaited by the people of Aylesbury since first being proposed in 2017.

“That’s why I made it an early priority to persuade both housing and Treasury ministers to push the bid to top of the pile and enable the money to be released. This money will be a

huge boost for the town, paying for improvements to our roads, the creation of walking and cycling routes and providing new school places. "

Rob Butler went to stress that there was a need in Aylesbury for infrastructure, such as roads and schools must improve if there is to be large developments around the town.

He said this money would go a 'long way' to redressing the infrastructure gap.

He continued: “Today's successful bid is just one part of an enormous investment in infrastructure announced by the Chancellor in his budget today.

"People living and working across the Aylesbury constituency will benefit as the Conservative government deliver on our promises providing record amounts for the NHS and public services across the region.

“Increases in the National Insurance threshold and the National Living Wage announced today will mean families keep more of the money they earn. This is the first Budget

delivered outside the EU for more than five decades. It sets out a clear, one nation, path for the Government to get things done.”
