Big screen stardom for Aylesbury Pauline Quirke Academy youngsters

Aylesbury Pauline Quirke Academy youngsters had the chance to see their own film on the big screen at a very special event this week.

After winning their category in the Big Screen Classics film competition, members of the academy's youngest group went to London’s O2 Cineworld to see their film on the big screen.

Magic Carpet and Measuring up, a recreation of the scene from the much- loved musical, Mary Poppins, was filmed by the children and featured three members of the Pauline Quirke Academy in the roles of Mary Poppins, Jane and Michael Banks.

A spokesman for the academy said: "Audiences marvelled as ‘Mary’ pulled first a hat stand, then a mirror, plant and standing light out of her magic bag! When interviewed following the film, the children were asked about the ‘tricks of the trade’ and revealed their secret!"

"It was such an amazing day" said Harrison who played Michael, "I’m now famous!"

The spokesman added: "We are very proud to be the recipient of yet another award to add to the ever-growing collection which is a testament to all the children’s hard work within the academy.

"Through films like these, children from six – 18 years old are discovering talents they never knew they had both behind the camera and in front of it."
