There are concerns that if the fires get out of hand, they could also pile pressure on beleaguered emergency services.

There are also concerned the smoke from the fires could be harmful to people with respiratory problems.

Writing to their facebook page, Recycling Buckinghamshire said:

"Please don't light #garden fires during the #coronavirus pandemic.

"As well as the danger of it getting out of control there are people in the community living with respiratory problems which could be made worse if exposed to bonfire smoke.

"We know it's not easy at the moment, but please compost your garden waste where possible, and stack or bag up rubbish for disposal when the current emergency is over."
