Aylesbury Vale nature scenes will be changed forever by HS2

We had beautiful weather at the weekend, and the woods around Dunsmore showcased the best that springtime nature has to offer.

Pretty bluebells, moss covered trees and beautiful vistas across Wendover and beyond.

But all of that is set to change, as, following the government's green light for the HS2 scheme, work is already starting around Dunsmore and Wendover.

Other works have also begun in the Aylesbury Vale in Quainton, Fairford Leys and Steeple Claydon.

Homes and businesses are being lost at an already uncertain time in human history, our natural landscape is being spoiled and this area will change forever.

There is no business case for HS2, and with more people than ever set to work from home following the pandemic how can there be justification for more capacity on our trains?

There is a local resistance, and some campaigners are staging protests, but so far all of that has fallen on deaf ears as the at times non-socially distanced workforce ploughs on.

In Wendover this week HS2 workers could be seen on site, and temporary buildings and fences have sprung up to mark out the route of the train line.

This newspaper has led the HS2: Enough Is Enough campaign and strongly believes that the scheme is a massive white elephant.

Already grossly over budget, how can the government even consider going ahead with HS2 which the Covid-19 pandemic looks set to decimate our economy in the coming months and years?
