Aylesbury supermarkets Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose take measures to stop 'panic buying'

You may notice the changes in our local stores this week, intended to deter local people from 'stockpiling' essential produce.

Earlier this week, the British Retail Consortium pleaded with the public for shoppers to 'only take what they need' to help protect more vulnerable groups.

Sainsbury's in Aylesbury have in the interim, installed the following measures:

Customers will now only be able to buy a maximum of three of any grocery product.

A cap of two is going to be imposed on the most popular items, such as toilet roll, soap and UHT milk.

Tesco has suspended all-night opening in big stores and Waitrose is drafting in hundreds of extra staff to cope with demand.

The Aylesbury Broadfield Store saw huge queues this morning from as early as 6am as eager shoppers attempted to stock up on food.

Reports yesterday suggested that Aylesbury Morrisons was rammed and 'like a war zone'.

They also suggested on twitter yesterday the firm had seen a "considerable" degree of stockpiling and urged customers to "just buy what you need".
