To mark the special day on Thursday 5 March, children and staff from Aktiva Nursery, which is situated on the new Kingsbrook housing development, dressed up as characters from their favourite books and enjoyed stories being brought to life in front of their eyes by storyteller David Allen.

World Book Day, now in its 23rd year, was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.

On World Book Day, every child in full-time education in the UK is given a book token that can be exchanged at bookshops for one of fifteen specially designed books.

This year there are books by authors including Matt Haig, Anthony Horowitz and Greg James.

Michela Catena, Nursery Manager at Aktiva, said: “We were all really excited about David coming to the nursery for the afternoon to help us celebrate World Book Day.

“We’re really grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for organising this event. The children thoroughly enjoyed David’s stories and it was a great way to get their imaginations fired up and get them really excited about reading.”

Karly Williams, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Thames, said: “We are incredibly pleased that the nursery children enjoyed the storytelling session so much.
