Aylesbury MP Rob Butler visits latest RAF Halton graduates

Rob said: “I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations to this latest cohort of Royal Air Force recruits.

"Pearson Intake has worked extremely hard to complete this initial stage of their training, particularly given the challenges and uncertainty of the pandemic, and I was pleased to be able to hear first-hand how their time at RAF Halton has helped prepare them for future careers helping defend the UK and its interests.”

The primary role of RAF Halton is to train personnel to the standard needed for military operations.

As well as the Recruit Training Squadron, the base is used by specialist training squadrons and the RAF’s media operations personnel.

In his capacity as a member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, which provides MPs with a thorough insight into the valuable and broad work carried out by the RAF across the entire country, Rob has visited a number of bases whose personnel began their careers at Halton.

He added: “Aylesbury has had a strong connection to the RAF since Alfred de Rothschild first invited No. 3 Squadron Royal Flying Corps to use his land for training in September 1913, and I’m proud that our constituency hosts not only the RAF’s Initial Basic Training course here at RAF Halton, but Air Command at RAF High Wycombe too.

“The graduates are due to move on to phase two training elsewhere, and they will no doubt go on to have successful careers as part of the RAF. However, the personnel and their families, like those belonging to Pearson Intake, will always be welcome here in Aylesbury.”
