Aylesbury MP Rob Butler raises concerns over Chinese firm Huawei's involvement in UK 5G network

Aylesbury MP Rob Butler has raised concerns in Parliament this week about the Chinese firm Huawei's involvement in building the UK's new 5G network.

There has been concerns expressed by the United States about Huawei's involvement in the 5G project, because of concerns it could be a backdoor for the Chinese state to get access to the west's data.

The US and the United Kingdom share critical information, and the US said that by allowing Huawei to build integral parts of the new network could put that relationship in jeopardy.

The United Kingdom is in an awkward position, as Beijing has also warned the UK there could be "substantial" repercussions to other trade and investment plans had the company been banned outright.

The UK have allowed Huawei to build 35% of the new network - including radio masts.

However, they have been banned from building core elements of the network, and they have been excludef from building near areas close to military bases and nuclear sites.

In a question posed to Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Rob Butler Said: "Having heard the considerable concerns both inside and outside the house today, will my right honourable friend assure me and my constituents in Aylesbury of one simple thing, which is that the government will always prioritise our national security and heed the advice of our national security service, when it comes to our critical national infrastructure?
