Aylesbury MP Rob Butler calls for HS2 work to end immediately as coronavirus pandemic grips Aylesbury Vale

The calls come after a HS2 worker was seen coughing in the face of an elderly man in Wendover earlier this week.

Aylesbury MP Rob Butler has called for work on HS2 to end immediately, as local people face the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus crisis.

Rob said: “I have met the Minister for HS2, Andrew Stephenson MP, and told him that work on HS2 must stop now.

"This follows shocking reports I received from residents in Wendover, who saw a contractor for HS2 Ltd coughing over local people, putting them at immediate risk of illness.

"Coronavirus is lethal and this behaviour is absolutely disgraceful.

"Other contractors for HS2 have been observed failing to comply with the government’s strict rules on social distancing, which state that people must stay at least two metres away from one another.

"This is irresponsible and reprehensible behaviour, in flagrant defiance of measures that have been introduced to protect the NHS. Work on HS2 is not essential at this time; its contractors should go home, stay home and save lives”
