But so that surplus food gets to those most in need McDonald’s restaurants in Aylesbury partnered with two local charities to distribute food to those in need.

On 25 March, just two days later, McDonald’s Franchisee in Aylesbury Don Gordon and his team had established links with the Food Bank at Aylesbury Vineyard Stockhouse and Animal Antiks to ensure that their stock did not go to waste.

Food items that were distributed included, free-range eggs, organic milk, bacon, lettuce, onion, cucumber, tomatoes and bread buns.

The food was distributed to people most at need through the Aylesbury Food Bank and was used to provide lunch for children with special educational needs who attend sessions at Animal Antiks.

Don Gordon, who owns and operates two restaurants in Aylesbury, said: “I am incredibly proud of my team and the way they have responded to this unprecedented challenge. Supporting the local community in Aylesbury has I have always been important to me and to my team, and that is more important than ever at a time like this.

“McDonald’s restaurants and franchisees across the country have been doing whatever we can to support the needs of our local communities, and this crisis has shown the real impact we can have when we all pull together.

“I want to thank my team and the volunteers at both Aylesbury Vineyard Stockhouse and Animal Antiks who have been brilliant in facilitating us to support these initiatives. We are looking forward to being able to open once again as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Adam Townsend, Manager at Aylesbury Vineyard Storehouse Food Bank, said:

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of both large and small businesses in the current crisis pulling together to help the local community.”
