Birthday Card’s sonic style (self-described as ‘melancholy pop’) is attributed to a variety of influences – from Kanye West to Kylie Minogue, The Streets to The Sugababes.

Their performance at The Great Escape 2019 went down as one of the highlights from the weekend, the result of two years fine-tuning their live sound in the UK’s underground clubs and venues.

Speaking to the Herald, lead guitarist Conor Richards said: "It’s a complete privilege for us to be on Notting Hill Arts Club Recordings.

"The team behind it have worked with some really ground-breaking artists, so it feels really special to be part of this label.

“With ‘Shy Away’, we wanted to craft a modern day pop song that channels the anxiety and tension of its lyrics."

“Shy Away” combines a pumping bass and drums flirting with groove-based synths and guitars with the shimmering, pitch-corrected falsetto vocals from Josh Saw.

It’s another future summer anthem from the group, who have been described as 'ones to watch' over 2020.

Notting Hill Arts Club is one of London's most prestigious and pioneering venues.

It has a longstanding dedication to championing up-and-coming musicians, having hosted global superstars such as Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson, The Libertines and more early on in their respective careers.

The Notting Hill Academy of Music was also formed in recent years - a music business school that offers vocational courses to get young people in the door of the music industry.

The academy has been a huge success with many alumni now working in their dream jobs within the music business.

Now the label is the next phase for the Arts Club in their ongoing efforts to providing the platform for the future stars of music. So far, they’ve released music from Grimm Twins and Birthday Card, with more to follow.
