A councillor has broken new ground after becoming the first serving mayor of Aylesbury to get married while in office.

Allison Harrison and her partner of 13 years Martin Farrow enjoyed a ‘celebrant ceremony’ at the Judges Lodgings on Saturday.

This followed an official registration of marriage at a registry office a few days earlier.

Mrs Harrison said: “It was a very small wedding and because I have such a public role I wanted it to be fairly private.

“I had friends from all over the country and from other parts of the world.”

Mrs Harrison and her husband live just off Oakfield Road in Aylesbury.

The couple jointly run an IT systems business Versacloud.

They originally met on Bonfire Night which led to them setting a November 7 date for the wedding.

Mrs Harrison said: “We got married after a lot of discussion and I said yes after a lot of persuasion.

“I got a lot of vouchers and some presents including a food processor from my mother-in-law.

“Some people also donated to my chosen charities which was very generous of them.”

The mayor was back on duty the day after her wedding as she attended the Remembrance Day service in Aylesbury on Sunday.

She said: “Because of my busy schedule we have decided to go away in January.

“We will be staying with some friends of mine in Seattle in the United States.”

Mrs Harrison said she had been ‘overwhelmed’ at all the good wishes she had received and said this showed ‘Aylesbury was a really lovely town.’
