Terrence Noble was out at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub with friends who were taking part in the local pub quiz on Tuesday night.

He had also bought along his trusty companion Kaizer, the 3-year-old German Shepherd.

Terrance works nearby for the RAF, and said he'd just popped out to enjoy an evening with some friends.

He said: "Me and my friends were out at a pub quiz at the Shoulder of Mutton, and one of the people we were with popped out to smoke a cigarette.

"When she came back she looked a bit surprised and told the table she had heard someone crying out for help in the distance while she was smoking, but said she wasn't sure whether it was kids messing around."

The group went out to look around the pub, but there was a lot of noise from the train station and they couldn't be sure where the noise was coming from.

It was only when after a while of looking, and the humans had given up - that Kaiser began to pull on his lead and encouraged them to follow him.

Terrance continued: "The dog just kept pulling and pulling on the lead to we decided to let him lead the way.

"The cries of the person got louder and louder, but it's all fields and woods behind the pub and it wasn't easy to see anything."

But fortunately, Kaiser led them straight to the 87 year old man who had got lost on his way to a meeting at Wendover cricket club.

"We're so lucky we had him around - after our initial search we just thought it must have been kids messing around.

"The man had been dropped off my a taxi at the wrong location - there's two pitches at the Wendover Cricket Club and he was dropped at the wrong one, but decided to make his own way to the correct place.

"He got lost, then tried to find his way back to town."

And the group weren't the only people looking for him - as the transport police were searching the area at the time too for a missing person.

They bought him back to the Shoulder of Mutton pub, where kind staff offered him a drink and a chance to relax and calm down.

The man explained how he had become disorientated and had fallen over several times on the steep banks surrounding the club, and was very thankful to Kaiser and Terrance for coming to find them!
