PCC CANDIDATE PROFILE: 'Household burglaries have gone down'

Defending his seat, Conservative candidate Anthony Stansfeld cited improved crime statistics as a good reason to vote him back in again.

Mr Stansfeld, who in his spare time enjoys gardening, 
fishing and flying light aircraft, says that he is enjoying being the Thames Valley’s police and crime commissioner, and would welcome a second term.

He said: “I think the main positive has been getting the figures for household burglary down during the time I have been police and crime commissioner.

“It’s been about putting the right people in control of it, and putting more effort into it too.

“A low point I must say has been the unpleasantness of people on Twitter, there are some very unpleasant people out there. I don’t read the comments anymore.

“The latest crime figures will go up, simply because people are reporting crime more than they did in the past.

“Sexual crimes in many cases are historic as well, so in general those types of crimes have gone down too.”

He added: “We have gone from being one of the weakest police forces, to being one of the best in the country according to the Peel Report.”

And the importance of cracking down on sexual crimes has become ever apparent throughout Mr Stansfeld’s tenure.

During his term of office high profile historic cases have come to light.

These include the case of the six men found guilty of Aylesbury child sexual exploitation crimes and jailed at The Old Bailey.

And Mr Stansfeld said that this is another area that the force is focussing on.

He said: “We have set up a multi-agency safeguarding hub in Aylesbury and we have put a lot of focus into dealing with these kinds of crimes. “

And when asked why he is the best man for a job, 
which could soon include the fire service and the 
ambulance service, Mr Stansfeld said: “I’m hugely more experienced than the other candidates.

“I have an MA in global security and terrorism and have run an international company.

“I have also served in the army and ran army helicopters during the Falklands.

“I also ran Operation Raleigh and took 100 young people around central America.

“At the moment we are dealing with the threat of terrorism, and I have expertise in this area. “

Mr Stansfeld is married to wife Nicky and the couple have two daughters Caroline and Alice.
