Activities included a display of saris from different parts of India, a demonstration of how to wear a sari, bindii painting and henna tattooing.

There was also a taste of India with a buffet including samosas and pakoras. The event, supported by Tesco, raised more than £250 from a raffle for the Meru Women’s Garden Project, a charity helping the poorest women-led households in Kenya to improve their food production, education and economic independence.

Joanna Swift, club president, said: “The aim of the event was to have fun learning about Indian culture, as well as raising money for a good cause. We also raised more than £1,100 for local charities the previous week, thanks to the generous golfers taking part in our charity golf day at Weston Turville golf course. This will be split between the women’s refuge in Aylesbury and Contact the Elderly.”
