The eight year-old ginger Tom has a deformed left eye from fighting his enemies which gives him a sinister appearance.

Despite that he is said to be ‘adorable’ – but staff at a rescue centre reckon his rather fearsome features are putting off prospective owners.

Nelson was given shelter after being found in a car park with an injured eye by a couple in Winslow.

They tried to find his owner but no one came forward and as the wound got worse they took him to a vet who found a corneal scratch on his left eye.

That has left him with limited vision in his damage eye but perfect sight in the other.

He was taken to the Cats Protection centre who called him Nelson after England’s famous one-eyed admiral.

But after naming him they noticed he also looked rather like 007’s arch-enemy in the earlier Bond films.

Nicole Parish, welfare officer of the charity’s Chilterns branch, said: “He does look like Blofeld, although I never made the connection until someone said it.

“He’s an adorable cat, I personally think he just looks very oddly cute.

“I think it makes him unique and I hope it will make someone want him even more.

“A lot more people want kittens now and I think that makes it harder to home older cats.”

Blofeld – famous for his trademark white cat – was first played in You Only Live Twice by actor Donald Pleasance with a scarred right eye.

The character is being reintroduced in the next Bond film, more than 30 years after he was last seen on screen, with actor Jays Reilly as the evil genius.

Nelson has now been neutered and anyone wishing to adopt him should contact Cat’s Protection.
