Stephen Stringer brings a wealth of relevant experience, both as a non-executive director and having enjoyed a varied career as a senior Civil Servant in the housing and regeneration sectors, the trust said in a statement.

This has seen him work to deliver some extremely high profile projects, including the programme to expand the large scale private rented sector including the Build to Rent fund, the Olympics Legacy, and delivering growth to the Thames Gateway area.

Mr Stringer, who has taken over from Richard Stanway-Williams, said: ‘I am delighted to be appointed chair of the Trust in this, its tenth anniversary year.

“The lack of good quality affordable housing is a real barrier to health, education and the ability to take an active part in the community.

“I am looking forward to applying my passion for providing affordable homes and improving people’s lives for the benefit of the communities of Aylesbury Vale.”

He will remain chair of Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association.

He also works as a consultant on housing, regeneration and sustainability issues.
