New High Sheriff is pricked

The new High Sheriff for Buckinghamshire was officially ‘pricked’ yesterday as she took up the ancient role.

Francesca Skelton, who lives in Great Linford, Milton Keynes was appointed to the role which is the oldest continuous secular office under the Crown in Britain.

Along with other high sheriffs from across the country, she was officially ‘pricked’ - a practice which dates back to the reign of Elizabeth I.

For the next 12 months Mrs Skelton will be the Queen’s legal representative for Buckinghamshire.

A former chairman of Milton Keynes College and MK Community Foundation, she has lived in Milton Keynes since 1977.
