New flats plan for prominent Aylesbury town centre site

One of the most prominent gateways into Aylesbury town centre could get a new look, if planning permission for 59 flats is granted.

The homes would be built on the old Dayla site near the High Street/ Exchange Street/ Vale Park Drive roundabout.

This is the fourth time planning permission has been sought on the site. The first two applications for 39 and 38 flats lodged between 2003 and 2005 were refused, while proposals for 39 homes in 2011 were approved.

However, drinks firm Dayla, which moved to a new headquarters in Aston Clinton in 2008, admitted in 2014 that they had struggled to find a developer interested in building the homes. The Bucks Herald reported that Dayla was planning on using the site on a temporary basis for extra storage.

Permission to build the flats officially lapsed in October 2015 and now the company is hoping to get district council approval for a third more homes than the previous plans.

A statement to council planners says the site redundant and ‘the existingindustrial buildings are of poor quality and are unattractive. The buildings are obsolete and not worthy of retention’.

It says the proposals would ‘provide a strong street frontage to the High Street and Exchange Street’, respect neighbouring properties and make ‘optimum’ use of the land.
