New chief exec to earn less than outgoing chief '“ But it's still a lot of money!

That’s significantly less than outgoing boss Chris Williams, who when he retired was on £214,000.

When Mr Williams anounced his retirement council leader Martin Tett said that the authority would look to save money when choosing a successor.

That successor is Rachael Shimmin OBE, corporate director for children and adults services at Durham County Council since 2012.

Rachael is responsible for a revenue budget of over £800m and a team of over 3,000 people.

She was awarded an OBE for services to social care in 2014.

Prior to taking on the joint portfolio of children and adults services, Rachael was director for a range of services including adult care, community safety, health, culture 
and libraries, gypsy and travellers, and community engagement.

Martin Tett, leader of the council, said: “Following a rigorous recruitment process, the senior appointments committee has recommended that we offer the role of chief executive at Buckinghamshire County Council to Rachael Shimmin.

“Rachael was an excellent candidate in what was a highly competitive recruitment process.

“She brings significant experience in the key sectors of children’s services, adult social care and health.

“These are all sectors that represent both growing challenges and opportunities for the county council, and Rachael’s skills will further strengthen the council’s position in these areas.”

Rachael Shimmin said: “I am thrilled to have been offered the role of chief executive for Buckinghamshire County Council.

“This is an exciting role and I very much look forward to working with elected members, officers and partners.”

The appointment is yet to be approved by councillors.
