‘Movie stars’ take over village

Tinsel Town came to Wing on Saturday as Wing Carnival celebrated the theme At The Movies.

The village came together as one and the Hollywood sunshine shone all day.

Gru and his Minions; a battle between the Empire and Rebel Alliance; Woody, Buzz and friends; 101 Dalmatians and Maverick and Iceman all featured in the parade led by Minnie, Mickey, Ginger Rogers and Majorettes.

Marilyn Monroe chose 1st Wing Beaver Scouts, the Minions, as the procession winners, Toy Story’s Rex as the 8 and under winner and R2D2 as the over 8s winner.

Hundreds flocked to Jubilee Green to enjoy the afternoon’s entertainment in the arena including the Wing Singers, Adrian Marsh dancing group, Nuts and Mutts dog display and The Marsh Gibbon Silver band entertained the crowds with themed music.

The scarecrow competition was won by an impressive Spiderman in Stewkley Road with many other entries around the village.

An eclectic mix of stalls and attractions provided interest for all ages and tastes including a petting farm, play bus, plant stalls and Wing Heritage Group digging another hole in the village!

Carnival spokesman Clare Cleaver said: “The day was a huge success and the small band of carnival committee members and invaluable helpers hoped everybody had a fun and enjoyable day – judging by the Facebook comments, and kind words from many, they certainly did.”
