M40 CRASH UPDATE: Emergency services relase details of incident

The motorcyclist was treated for chest injuries before being airlifted to hospital

West Midlands Ambulance Service have released more details of today’s fatal crash on the M40 in which a driver sadly died.

A man died at the scene after the van he was driving collided with three lorries on the northbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 12.

Emergency services were called at about 11.15am and sent two ambulance crews, an advanced community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle.

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and South Central Ambulance Service also attended.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “The van was badly damaged. Its driver was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. His woman passenger had managed to get out and was sitting on a grass verge when crews arrived. She had pains to a knee, an elbow and her neck.

“She was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“The drivers of the lorries involved were uninjured.”

Highways England said lanes one and two of the carriageway remain closed to motorists, and that the may not open until the evening rush hour.

They added long delays are expected and drivers planning to use the motorway are advised to avoid the area if possible.
