The impact of child sexual exploitation both on victims and their families is truly devastating.

That’s why we and our partners are committed to continuing the work we have been doing for some time to tackle CSE and other forms of sexual abuse in Buckinghamshire.
So we are delighted to report that partners across the county have united to launch a promise to children and young people that they will continue to work together to keep them safe.
Alongside Buckinghamshire’s Safeguarding Children Board, the County Council, the district councils, Thames Valley Police, Barnardo’s and our other partners all pledge to working together to tackle sexual exploitation by preventing CSE, protecting victims and pursuing perpetrators.

Before the launch of the CSE Promise, partners have been working together through our specialist CSE Swan Unit.

Significant resources have been invested in this team which combines police officers with social workers, health experts and Barnardo’s staff, but the Swan Unit is now playing a vital role.
The Safeguarding Children Board has sponsored many training and awareness-raising events for front-line staff across the partnership, so they can understand the signs of CSE and know where to report concerns.

This includes working with schools and with parents, particularly on knowing more about online grooming and how children can be helped to keep themselves safe.

We always need to do more; and we will continue to raise awareness with the public of how to spot the signs of abuse and how to report concerns.

Also on our action list is reaching more minority resident groups to raise awareness in all our communities. Partners are also working to raise awareness with people and organisations involved in the night-time economy, like taxi firms and hotels, as they can be in a key position to spot and report concerns.
We will keep true to our promise of doing all we can to wipe out the evil of child sexual exploitation in Buckinghamshire.
