A biblical spectacular for the whole family will be at the Waterside Theatre for Easter.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the hit show by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, has enjoyed success all over the world
In the past it has seen Jason Donovan, Phillip Schofield, Lee Mead and Donny Osmond in the lead role, retelling the Book of Genesis story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours.
The stunning colourful costumes and hit songs in the show, including Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door, ensure a visual and auditory feast for the senses.
The show arrives at the Waterside on the last day of March, Tuesday 31, and will be here through to Easter Saturday, April 4, so will provide a perfect Easter outing.
The cast in the production coming to the Waterside is full of reality show contestants.
Former X Factor contestant Lloyd Daniels reprises the role of Joseph, which he also played during the 2014 tour of the show.
Lloyd became the X Factor’s youngest contestant in 2009 and got to the final five out of 250,000 contestants to perform in front of 10 million television viewers.
Since then he has performed to sold-out arenas on a 56 date X Factor tour and released his popular single Suburbian Girl.
The musical also sees the welcome return of Matt Lapinskas, donning his Elvis outfit once more, to reprise the role of the Pharaoh.
Best known for playing Anthony Moon in BBC’s EastEnders, Matt was also runner up in the penultimate series of Dancing On Ice.
He joined the cast of Joseph in 2014, for his first musical theatre role.
Stepping into the role of the Narrator, Amelia Lily adds more X Factor to the show.
Amelia, who was mentored by former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, finished third on the reality show in 2011, the year Little Mix claimed the crown.
But despite just missing out on the top spot, she went on to have chart success with her debut single You Bring Me Joy, which got to number two in the charts.
The Middlesbrough born singer almost missed out on becoming a finalist when she was eliminated early on in the competition.
But after another contestant was disqualified she was brought back after a public vote reinstated her, resulting in her nickname the Comeback Kid.
Amelia was the support act for fellow reality show acts Girls Aloud in their farewell tour in 2013 and for Olly Murs at the INTRO Festival.
Show times at the Waterside are Tuesday - Thursday 7.30pm, Wednesday and Thursday matinees 2.30pm, Friday 5pm and 8pm, Saturday 2pm, 5pm and 8pm.
Tickets £11 to £33 from the box office. Or call 0844 871 7607 or book online.
