Investigation opened after child's toy car bursts into flames

The vehicle caught fire just moments after a toddler was using it in Monks Risborough on Monday February 20.

Fire crews based in Oxfordshire were called to the back garden of a home in the village as the blaze destroyed the car before spreading to hedgerow.

Incident Commander watch manager Andy Ford based at Thame fire station said: “The toddler was driving the ride on electric car when his mother noticed smoke coming from the front of it.

“She quickly ran up the garden and pulled her two-year-old son from the car just before it was engulfed in flames.

“Her prompt actions definitely saved him from serious injury.”

The incident has subsequently been reported to Bucks Trading Standards who said in a statement: “Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards are working with the fire and rescue service making enquiries into the incident.”
