Infrastructure key for HS2 plan

Tracey Aldworth, of Aylesbury Vale District Council addressed the parliamentary select committee discussing the scheme on Monday.

She said that is the Vale must be part of the controversial project, HS2 Ltd must make good on plans for a link road on the south west side of Aylesbury.

She said: “In terms of the growth that Aylesbury is looking to see in the coming years we are keen that HS2 helps us with that rather than precludes the growth we are to see in those years.”

The committee also heard that landowners had signalled that they are happy with plans for the link road.

The committee is receiving submissions from those affected by the Buckinghamshire side of the project until November 5.

Other interested parties who will address the panel include Buckinghamshire County Council, John Bercow MP, East Claydon Parish Council, Arnold White Estates Ltd and many residents whose homes are directly affected by the plans.

On Monday the committee also heard from David Richards of Turweston Parish Council which lies on the boarder with Northants.

Like areas of the Vale, Mr Richards said that his village was concerned about loss of amenities, about through traffic during construction and about the line itself which would “cleave the village in half.”
