A member of the Aylesbury Speakers Club, affiliated to Toastmasters International,

Selina Jones, has won a prize in her first public speaking contest.

A member for just a few months, it was a surprise to Selina and her club in Aylesbury that she came first in their humorous speech contest. She took part in the area contest made up of five clubs and won that too to become champion of Buckinghamshire and went on to win the division contest.

Selina faced some tough competition at district level, which covers the southern part of the UK, but was named District Champion 2015.

Her humorous speech entitled ‘Take the Stairs’ was based on Selina’s experiences at work and how colleagues used to favour taking the elevator instead of the stairs in a small building.

She criticized those who originally labelled the floors incorrectly and colleagues that didn’t follow her regime of using perfectly good stairs. Toastmasters provide a supportive environment for people who wish to improve their communication, presentation and leadership skills.
