A school governor is concerned ‘rogue’ HS2 construction vehicles could pose a major risk to pupil safety.

HS2 Ltd says construction vehicles are not likely to use central Wendover and rather stick to the bypass.

But John Savin, from John Colet School in Wendover, told the HS2 Select Committee that a firm guarantee should be made.

He said: “What we don’t want to see is children damaged, hurt, even killed, by rogue construction traffic that shouldn’t be there in the first place; or by extra congestion due to contractor private vehicles – small vans, things like that.”

Richard Turney, counsel for the Department for Transport, said they couldn’t give a guarantee at this stage because s ‘construction traffic routing is a matter to be agreed with the highway authority’.
