The aim is to raise confidence and improve assertiveness so they are able to deal with bullying situations effectively.

Two workshop sessions have been arranged by Buckinghamshire County Council & Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board, which will also provide support to parents/carers.

The free events, limited to 12 places each, are being held in June in High Wycombe and Aston Clinton. More could be arranged around the county if they prove successful.

Zahir Mohammed, County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, explained: “We know that being bullied can ruin a young person’s childhood and sometimes, quite understandably, they simply cannot see a way out.

“However, there is always a way to beat the bully, and often it’s a lot easier than it seems. We want to teach people how to withstand the pressure and allow them to live and study in peace.”

The target audience for the sessions is young people who are particularly affected by bullying and who are struggling to cope.

Cllr Mohammed added: “In the longer term, the skills they learn at these workshops will help them cope as adults because we know bullying exists in all walks of life.

“Bullying is often a normal part of school life, but it can be incredibly cruel and destructive and we aim to build up the self-esteem and resilience of the victims.”

The workshops, to be booked on a first-come first-served basis, are run on by kidscape, the national children’s charity - https://www.kidscape.org.uk/

The sessions will be as follows:

• One for 9 to 11 year olds on Wednesday June 15 at Youthspace Wycombe (Desborough Street, High Wycombe, HP11 2RA) - from 10am to 3.30pm. Lunch will be provided
