Organisers are planning to bring back Buckinghamshire’s biggest free music festival.

Although the line up is yet to be confirmed, Hobble on the Cobbles is earmarked for a return to Aylesbury’s Market Square with four stages on the 2013 August Bank Holiday Sunday.

Since 2007 thousands have flocked to watch bands like Marillion, Scouting For Girls, Kajagoogoo and John Otway (pictured).

But in 2011 the event ran into difficulty with securing funding and had to be cancelled.

Efforts to reprise it this year fell through, when a fundraising event called Hobble At the Waterside was cancelled in the week leading up to it.

Organiser Stuart Robb said: “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to put on another Hobble on the Cobbles event and I think it has been missed by the town.

“It’s a shame the fundraiser event at the Waterside Theatre didn’t work out, so I’m just hoping people still actually want a Hobble on the Cobbles in Aylesbury.

“Of course as long as the sponsorship and fundraising makes everything viable then it’s a runner.

“If we don’t have the public support and funds can’t be raised, then unfortunately we haven’t got an event.

“So many similar events, bigger and smaller than Hobble on the Cobbles, have fallen by the wayside in this economic climate.”

“We just hope Hobble on the Cobbles receives the support we think it deserves.”

The managing director of Aylesbury Showcase says he is currently looking for potential bands to perform.

“We are currently looking at a number of bands, generally speaking we invite the bands to be part of Hobble on the Cobbles,” said Stuart.

“There are so many great local bands at the moment, which is so encouraging for the local live music scene.

“We’re also essentially looking at bands who maybe haven’t yet had the opportunity to perform at Hobble on the Cobbles , so it gives more bands an opportunity to be involved.

“All being well, I’m hoping to have four stages with a main stage, an acoustic stage, a rock stage and a new showcase stage. But this may change.

“We are currently in the process of trying to secure some sponsorship from any local businesses, so if there are any local companies out there who would like to help support Hobble on the Cobbles and be part of the event, please get in touch by emailing office@AylesburyShowcase.co.uk
