High Street to close as town celebrates Queen's 90th

The Risborough Area Partnership Community Group are organising the party on Saturday, June 11 between 2-4pm, and teams of volunteers from local organisations and shopkeepers have teamed up to help organise this free event.

Funding has been provided by Wycombe District Council, Rotary, Kop Hill, local businesses, the Town, District and County Council members from their community budgets.

The High Street will be closed from noon until 6pm so the team

can set up and decorate tables. Areas will also be set aside for children’s and adult entertainment.

Children’s games will be run by Churches Together Breakout Group, shops will be open and the fire service and first responders will have vehicles on display as will the Risborough Community Bus who will be showing off their new vehicle.

The afternoon is intended to be a fun event when residents can bring their own food or buy from stalls run by local organisations or shops. Local dignitaries will be visiting the event, including the Rt Hon John Bercow MP.

Chairman of the RAP Community Group Cllr Bill Bendyshe-Brown said: “We have had such tremendous support from our local community, shops, organisations, stall holders and businesses. In setting up this event a group of local volunteers from many local groups have come together to help celebrate this once in a lifetime occasion where we can celebrate our Queen’s magnificent achievement of reaching her 90th Birthday. We just hope for good weather on the day to make this a celebration we can all be proud of in Princes Risborough.”

Tina Brown who represents the scouts and is organising the communications said: “The enthusiasm of our committee has been infectious. I hope everyone comes along on June 11 to make this a most memorable occasion.”
