Head will leave ‘amazing legacy’

Sue Collins joined Furze Down School in Winslow in April 1991 and has taken a variety of roles at the school during that time, including headteacher for the last nine years.

During that time, the school has achieved three ‘outstanding’ grades from Ofsted inspectors.

After joining the school in 1991, Mrs Collins became Key Stage Four team leader in 1993 before taking charge of the entire secondary department in 1995.

In 1998, she was promoted to deputy head before making the step-up to headteacher in 2006.

A school spokesman said: ‘Sue has been an inspirational and principled leader whose values of personal responsibility and self-respect have been instrumental in developing an ethos where views, beliefs and differences are valued.

‘Her outstanding leadership has ensured that the school has sustained excellence.

‘Sue is leaving the school with an amazing legacy.

‘She has led the school through three ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspections and has worked tirelessly for the last 10 years to secure the amazing new build that staff, parents and pupils are so proud of.’

On Tuesday, a whole school assembly was held during which a tribute video, which was put together by staff and pupils, was shown.

Mrs Collins was also presented with a wooden sculpture made by staff and pupils.

The school’s most recent outstanding Ofsted was last year when inspectors said that ‘highly effective leadership had created a culture of high expectations’ and that pupils made ‘outstanding’ progress.
