Groups aim to keep scene alive with creative projects

Two groups have shot up, with a drive to bring original and exciting music back to town.

Aylesbury Alternative Music Society organiser Matthew Small has already had some success, bringing globally recognised rockers Bullet For My Valentine to Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre last year.

And on February 5, the society is staging its first ever collective show.

Grunge punks Black Ju Ju, Honour Amongst Thieves and Casual Vandal will appear at The White Swan in the town centre.

The group also holds a monthly social at the venue, which is hosting live music again after a recent takeover.

Matthew said: “Our interest and focus is of a broad spectrum of what alternative is, from rock to metal, from punk to electronic music, from atonal avant-garde music to local singer songwriters.”

And music collective Structured Disasters are also putting on a punkish show on February 13 at the Queens Park Arts Centre. Acts are set to be announced nearer the time.

The group has already hosted successful shows in the town, including a well received experimental music night at the centre last year.

But their biggest project yet is to set up a record shop for Aylesbury.

Member Daniel Gregory said: “It began online and with a weekly market stall, but we hope to eventually move into a bricks and mortar unit and expand into being a proper arts/ social space as well as a record shop with a venue and a bar. “
