More than 50 representatives from the charities came along to The Gateway in Aylesbury to find out about the online Lottery, which has a top prize of £20,000.

The audience was given a presentation to explain exactly how the scheme will work while councillors were on hand to answer questions.

So far eight charities have already joined up. They are Medical Detection Dogs, Homestart, Bucks Play Association, Hampden Hall Community Centre, Oakley Social Club, Winslow Football Club, Haddenham Youth Theatre and National Youth Advocacy Service.

The charities will have their own webpage where their supporters can take part for £1 a week.

Each organisation will then get 50p in the pound, compared to 28p in the pound which the National Lottery donates.

Additionally, 8p from each ticket sale will go into a ‘wider good cause pot’.

Cabinet Member for transformation, Janet Blake, who was at Monday’s event, said: “It was fantastic to see so much interest from such a range of causes, including sports clubs, disability charities and organisations representing the arts.

“There was a great reaction to the Vale Lottery and I believe this will be an excellent route to fundraising for those who join up and get their supporters on board.”

Supporters will be able to sign up in the next few weeks, with the first draw expected to be around the end of November.
