Based on figures from Waste Data Flow, residents in Aylesbury Vale throws away an average of 150.5kg of non recyclable/compostable waste a year, compared to the UK average of 240.8 kg per year.

Every month, the council’s crews collect around 1,300 tons of recycling, with the district’s rates now up to 54%.

Councillor Sir Beville Stanier, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said: “This is very pleasing news and illustrates that we really are punching above our weight in the UK recycling stakes.

“It is becoming clear that those living in Aylesbury Vale are really thinking about what they are throwing away and what they are choosing to recycle or compost.

“By reducing the amount of waste our residents create and recycling as much as possible, it not only keeps the amount of waste going to landfill down, but it also saves the authority from year on year increases in landfill tax.”

Resource produces the league table each year and calculates the results using the Waste Data Flow website. It ranks local councils according to their recycling performance and the amount of residual waste sent to landfill in each area, with those collecting the least amount of residual waste per person at the top.
