Get ready for Aylesbury's Soapbox Derby!

The event will take place on Sunday, June 19 in Whitehill Park, and team registration has begun.

But riders will need to hurry, there is only space for 30 racers on the grid.

Held on Father’s Day, organisers Aylesbury Town Council say the event is ‘a great opportunity to work together with your family and friends over weekends and the school holidays, creating a kart which will speed you across the finish line (hopefully in first place).’

This year there are two racing categories, with trophies for the winning teams and medals for second and third places.

Categories for junior drivers (15 years old and under) and senior drivers (16 years old and over).

There will also be a trophy for the best looking kart as voted for by the public on the day.

A spokesman for the town council, said: “It’s time to let your imagination run wild, will you be racing in a slice of cake, as a pirate ship or the colours of your favourite football team – using recycled materials, team work and a big dose of creativity anything is possible.

“The 2015 winner was a brilliant bumble bee kart that was constructed from an old garden chair, pieces of scrap wood and a lot of imagination.”
