A huge tree has been blown to the ground in Tring ripping through overhead power cables and closing a road.

The tree came down at around 4.30pm yesterday and left homes in the area without power.

Firefighters, police, electricity services and highways attended the incident and the road between the Silk Mill Way junction and Robin Hood path was closed off.

A spokesman for Herts Fire and Rescue Service said: “The large tree had taken out electricity cables in various areas. We helped to make the area safe and looked for debris.”

We are awaiting confirmation from the highways team, Ringway, on the status of the road closure and the story will be updated accordingly.
