After four months of intensive training, the Waterside Whittington Walk team have completed their biggest fundraiser to date for Florrie’s Children’s Team.

The walk team, made up of theatre staff, walked 52 miles from Aylesbury to London in 24 hours.

Despite scorching heat, the team came in two and a half hours ahead of schedule at 11.30pm on Westminster Bridge, after a solid 19 and a half hours’ walking.

Celebrating the Waterside’s fifth birthday and this year’s panto, Dick Whittington, four team members managed to complete the whole distance while nine others each completed between 20 to 51 miles. Injuries included heat exhaustion, bites, stings and blisters.

Altogether, 38 venue staff either walked or volunteered their time on the day as support team.

Russell Grant, who appears in panto at the theatre, sent the team this message: “All you merry walkers!!!! I have just got off the Britannia and seen what you have done! You are sooooooooo special and worth your weight in gold. Well done and congratulations!”
