Footballers have a new goal to aim at as they head for league victory

New goal posts and nets are now in use at St John's Sports and Social Club, where the football club is riding high in the Aylesbury and District League Division One.

Their old goalposts are thought to date back to the 1960s when the social club was formed and now the funding of £2,600 from The Bucks Masonic Benevolent Fund committee (BMCF) has enabled the purchase, complete with wheels for ease of manoeuvring, plus a new set of corner posts and flags.

The BMCF has donated the full cost of replacing them with a pair of self-weighted aluminium moveable goals and so enable the teams to continue with their weekend games with the best equipment at their disposal.

Originally part of the old St John’s Hospital in Stone, the club is now a vital part of the local community and evolved into a friendly, family orientated venue for the local people to enjoy various sports and social activities.

Manager of St John’s FC, Adam Richmond, said: “We are extremely grateful to Bucks Freemasons and the BMCF for this generous donation. It gives the whole team a boost and a feeling of being that bit more professional in hosting our home games and has inspired us to a great season so far. It is also so much easier and quicker in dressing the pitch before and after a game.”

Assistant head of Freemasonry in Buckinghamshire Graham Dearing said: “The BMCF is absolutely delighted to help St John’s Sports and Social. This is one of the varied ways in which Bucks Freemasons’ core values of Friendship, Integrity and Charity are used to benefit the local community and underline our commitment to assisting families and young people in our area.”
