Footballer rushed to Stoke Mandeville Hospital after being seriously assaulted during match

A footballer was rushed to Stoke Mandeville Hospital after being attacked on the pitch during a match.

The attack happened between 2pm and 3.30pm on Saturday, February 20, while a match was taking place at Longburrow Hall playing fields in Stokenchurch, police said today (Saturday, February 27).

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was assaulted by a man on the pitch and sustained serious leg injuries.

He was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital where he received treatment for injuries to both of his legs. He has since been discharged from hospital. Police are treating it as an incident of grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The offender is white, 6ft, aged in his early twenties, of athletic build, with blond hair.

Investigating officer Det Con Suzie Price, said: “I would like to speak to witnesses who were watching the match who may have seen the assault. I would particularly like to speak to anyone who was filming the match on their mobile phone or other device and who has footage of the incident.

“If you have any information which could assist with our enquiries please contact me via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101.”
