Food product taken off supermarket shelves due to health risk

Jars of pickling spice have been withdrawn from supermarket shelves because it contains mustard.

The £2.49 80g jars of Bart Pickling Spice have been withdrawn because it contains yellow mustard seeds but a printing error has left them off the list of ingredients.

They could pose a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy to mustard.

The £2.49 jars also contain coriander seeds, crushed red chillies, ginger, bay leaves, allspice, black peppercorns, and cassia.

The affected products have the best before end dates of October 2018 and December 2018.

Bristol based The Bart Ingredients Company Ltd which started in 1963 said: “Bart Ingredients are recalling the above product due to a printing error on the product label.

“The product contains Mustard which is not declared in the ingredients list.

“Customers should return the product to the retailer for a full refund or contact us via e-mail [email protected] or telephone on 0743 626 6046 with any queries.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“This recall only affects this particular product with above Best Before End Dates.”

The Food Standards Agency added: “Bart Ingredients is recalling some batches of its Bart Pickling Spice 80g because a small number of jars have a printing error on the label and contain mustard seeds.

“This means the product contains mustard seeds which are not mentioned on the label.

“The product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard.

“The product contains mustard seeds, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to mustard, do not eat it. Instead, return the product to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

“Bart Ingredients is recalling the product from customers and will contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores.

“No other Bart Ingredients products are known to be affected.”
