Jason Robert Hunt, 35, of Giants Grave Road, Neath, South Wales, was convicted at Wycombe Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard that on April 13 last year, Hunt was seen by a passing pedestrian in Eaton Road, Aylesbury, placing a car roof box and household waste from the rear of his van, on a green area in Eaton Road.

The witness took down the registration number of Hunt’s van and reported the incident to Thames Valley Police. The court then heard that later that week, on April 17, Hunt was caught on camera in Rose Avenue, Aylesbury, dumping carpets and household waste from the same van. On both occasions he was with another man who has not yet been traced.

Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire investigators twice interviewed Hunt at a police station for the two separate offences. During the interviews he made admissions only to the Rose Avenue offence, but at court pleaded guilty to both offences.

The Magistrates fined Mr Hunt £720 and ordered him to pay £1,112 towards prosecution costs. A victim surcharge of £70 was also levied, making a total to pay of £1,902.

The case was prosecuted by Buckinghamshire County Council working on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire.

The Waste Partnership launched the ‘Illegal Dumping Costs’ campaign in October 2003 to combat illegal dumping and waste management offences in Buckinghamshire. Since then, the Partnership has secured over 500 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences. On average, there is at least one conviction per week for illegal dumping offences in Buckinghamshire. This has resulted in a halving of reported incidents and a saving of over £1 million for residents.
