Fatal accident report: X-Factor girl’s dad was flying over Buckingham when plane went out of control, and managed to send a text while plane was spinning

Police and Accident Investigation attend the aftermath of a fatal light aircraft crash in a farmers field near Padbury

Muhammad Naviede, 60,  father of Raquelle Gracie, who earned fame in 2007 when her band Hope appeared on the X-Factor died in his light aircraft in August 2014.

A new report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) says that the plane was flying close to Buckingham when it entered a spin ‘from which it did not recover’.

Mr Naviede, a millionaire businessman who spent time in prison for fraud, died from multiple injuries as a result of the accident the report states.

At around 9.30am on August 20, Mr Naviede set of from Elstree in his Piper PA-38-112 Tomahawk.

He was headed for Turweston Aerodrome, but the plane encountered difficulties over Leighton Buzzard and he tried to use his mobile phone to make calls.

The report says: “ A SMS from the pilot’s phone was sent to the relative’s mobile phone, the text included the words’...I’m in a plane out of control and it’s going down...’

“The whole message consisted of 148 characters.

“At this time, the aircraft was positioned 1.8nm to the north of where it later impacted the ground.”

The report tells how a detailed examination of the wreckage was carried out and investigators found no evidence of engine failure.

The report also notes a ‘most unusual feature’, referring to Mr Naviede being able to send the 148 character  text message in 25 seconds while the plane was out of control.

An inquest will be heard into the death of Mr Naviede on April 22 at Beaconsfield Coroners Court.

A pre-inquest hearing has already taken place, and was attended by the businessman’s devastated family  who were handed personal items recovered from the crash site.
