FARMING MATTERS: Buckinghamshire YFC country show and rally to be held at Waddesdon

I imagine readers of this column will know by now that I am a great fan of the Young Farmers Federation. Both of my children have been members and they have both got a huge amount out of it.

One of the highlights of each year is the county rally, which is a country show open to everyone to attend and have a great day out.

This year’s rally, the Waddesdon Country Show, is being organised by the Aylesbury Young Farmers senior and junior clubs and will be held at The Bail on the Waddesdon Estate on Saturday June 4.

In addition to fabulous main ring attractions, there will be what for me is the highlight of the day - the young farmers’ unique and fascinating competitions.

Members from all the clubs around the county spend days, weeks and sometimes even months, preparing their entries for a variety of classes that range from the traditional stock judging, fencing and tractor handling, to the more unusual and quirky such as decorating a wellington boot or creating a garden ornament from farm scrap.

In next week’s paper, on my pages in the leisure section towards the back of the paper, I will be writing in full about what you can expect at the Waddesdon Country Show. Don’t miss it, there’s some great attractions.

In the meantime you might want to watch the video on this page which shows Princes Risborough YFC winning the tug of war and the entire rally back in 2010.
