Angela Macpherson, who stepped down as cabinet member for children’s services after just 18 months, has been appointed as chairman of the county council’s health and adult social care select committee (HASC).
The HASC’s role is to scrutinise the agencies and services that deliver health and adult social care in Bucks, including the NHS and the council’s own adult social care services.
Speaking of her appointment she said: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of leading one of the council’s select committees, which hold the county’s public services accountable to its residents.
“The HASC has a particularly important role: the challenges facing our health and social care services are profound as they find ways of coping with growing demand at a time of funding cuts.
“Our role in the HASC is to act as a critical friend – not only monitoring performance and holding service providers to account, but also identifying how services can be provided better for local residents.”
Mrs Macpherson was in charge of children’s services when it was judged to be failing by Ofsted. Weeks later she quit the role for ‘personal reasons’.
