Ebay cash injection to restore classic motor

Fancy £4,000 to do up a classic car? Well that's exactly what teacher David Newell got when he was selected to take part in a motoring challenge.

Hundreds of amateur restorers applied to take part in the eBay Car Challenge run by the action website.

Each of the three shortlisted competitors received £4,000 cash to spend on the site, in a bid to do the best restoration job possible on their vehicle.

Mr Newell, 41, who lives in Aylesbury, has injected some sportiness into the competion with his MK3 Triumph, but the car is not yet back to his best, and he hopes that the cash splash will help him to restore his dream car, and win the competition.

He said: “My Triumph GT6 was very nearly written off after a low speed collision, but I decided to buy ‘Little Red’ back from the insurers and salvage a slice of British motoring history with a view to getting her back on the road. “My budget has never been much, so I turned to eBay to source most of the replacements parts. ‘Little Red’ has since served as a reliable daily drive. Unfortunately, a 1970s classic is in a permanent state of restoration and I plan to use my time and the funding from eBay to get her back to her best.”
