The 30-strong fleet of dust carts will be displaying poppies, bought from the Royal British Legion, in cab windows on their rounds until November 11.

This is the first year Aylesbury Vale District Council’s collection carts will be sporting the red flowers.

Sir Beville Stanier, cabinet member for environment and health, thinks this year’s appeal has extra poignancy because of the First World War centenary.

He said: “Waste collections are something that every household in the district benefits from.

“So I hope that those people who see our collection vehicles wearing their poppies with pride will support the appeal in their own way and take a moment to remember our armed forces.”

Council policy bans bumper attachments such as poppies or red noses.
